Gandhi Ashram

On his return from South Africa, Gandhi's first Ashram in India was established in the Kochrab area of Ahmedabad on 25 May 1915. The Ashram was then shifted on 17 June 1917 to a piece of open land on the banks of the river Sabarmati.Reasons for this shift included: he wanted to do some experiments in living eg farming, animal husbandry, cow breeding, Khadi and related constructive activities, for which he was in search of this kind of barren land.gna aliqua. Sun Temple

The Sun Temple at Modhera dates back to early 11th century CE and was built by King Bhimdev I in 1026 CE. It was during the same period that the Jain temples at Mount Abu were constructed by Vimal Shah. The Rudra Mahal temple at Siddhapur also dates back to this period. Also re-constructed at the same time was the Somnath temple at Somnath Patan. Interestingly, the grand Brihadeeswarar temple at Thanjavur in South India was constructed during the same time.

This phenomenon has had many archaeologists and other experts stumped.

Sabarmati River Front

Sabarmati Riverfront is a beautiful waterfront area on the banks of the Sabarmati River. Dada Harir Stepwell

The Dada Harir Stepwell is a marvelous example of refined architecture and masonry of that era. It is one of the most tranquil places to visit in Ahmedabad. Here you can enjoy some peace and quiet as you observe the fine craftsmanship and the various inscriptions in Sanskrit and Persian on the walls and pillars of the stepwell. As you gaze down at the stepwell you can find birds flitting about as the whole essence of this structure takes you back in time.
